Longtime CEO John Campbell Retires

“We will figure it out!” That is what I was told when I first began my career with Cambium Learning Group 18 years ago. Back then, we came up with a simple idea: to acquire companies we believed would have the biggest positive impact on children. And that is exactly what we did, all by focusing on our purpose of helping all teachers and students feel seen, valued and supported.
Now, as I retire and enter a new chapter of my life, I am filled with gratitude. Today, Friday, May 6, marks my last day as CEO of Cambium Learning Group, a position I have held — and cherished — for the past nine years.
I am leaving a company of more than 2,300 talented professionals, all working together to serve more than 20 million students in more than 170 countries. I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to be surrounded by and learn from so many incredible people to whom I will forever be indebted for what they taught me about making a difference in people’s lives.
As difficult as it is for me to leave this company, I know the Cambium Learning Group family is in good hands. It's an honor to have our current chief operating officer, Ashley Andersen Zantop, take over as the new CEO of Cambium. As many have experienced first-hand, Ashley is more than just a capable and talented leader – she is the perfect person to lead Cambium forward, for more reasons than I can detail here. For me personally, Ashley helped me challenge my own assumptions and grow, not just as a leader, but as a person – and for that, I am grateful. I am confident that Cambium will remain a dynamic, flourishing company that only continues to grow its influence and impact.
Please join me in welcoming Ashley as Cambium Learning Group’s new CEO, and thank you all for your continued support of Cambium and its purpose. I look forward to all that you do next!
