How this Marketer Found Her Passion in the EdTech World
"Working in the edtech space has been the best decision I could have made."
For nearly two years, I have proudly served as Vice President of Marketing at Time4Learning. Despite not coming from an educational background, working in the edtech space has been the best decision I could have made. Time4Learning, a Cambium Learning Group company, is an award-winning affordable online PreK-12 homeschool curriculum that includes a customizable and flexible learning platform. We use interactive videos and a gamified experience to keep students’ minds engaged as they master concepts, practice skills, and develop effective study habits.
My journey at Time4Learning began in January 2020, just before COVID-19 changed the world. Seemingly overnight, the pandemic also transformed the way teachers, students and parents interacted with PreK-12 education. At once, our business faced the intimidating challenge of supporting thousands of “accidental homeschoolers” as they navigated tough decisions about their children’s education. Throughout the pandemic, our team remained committed to helping parents and students who were thrusted into this new reality and concerned about their children falling behind academically.
I love being in the edtech world. The people I have encountered are kind, encouraging, and smart. Perhaps these qualities shouldn't be all too surprising as these are people who are passionate about teaching and learning, but it’s one of my favorite parts of this role. I cherish the opportunity now to connect with my co-workers and our customers about how we can make a difference in the lives of children. This singular focus of empowering parents and children inspires me everyday to look for new ways to contribute to such an important purpose.
As part of my job, I help share inspiring stories about our families in an effort to demonstrate our curriculum’s benefits to parents considering the transition. Our marketing uses a wide variety of channels - social media, traditional media, blog posts, and advertising - to attract and retain customers. This multi-pronged approach has helped Time4Learning, and homeschooling in general, transition from a niche educational model to a well-known and mainstream school choice option. In order to help reduce educational disparities, we are making a concerted effort to communicate to the nation’s growing Hispanic community and other communities of color.
Time4Learning began with approximately 94K registered students in 2019 and now boasts more than 175K students. The company aggressively scaled up its services and rapidly executed changes to its operations, including doubling support staff, investing in new and emergent technologies, increasing the volume of real-time, personalized communications to worried parents, and restructuring its departments to better serve its growing homeschooling population.
Recently, I was announced as a March of DimesWomen of Distinction honoree. In its 26th year, the event highlights South Florida women leaders who have made significant achievements professionally and as advocates for children and babies. I am so humbled to have been recognized for the work I care so deeply about and will for years to come.
The time for education technology to serve as the linchpin to workforce development and preparing youth for the jobs of tomorrow has come. We need advanced education technology products to address the changing world, and I’m thrilled to be part of this growing and highly impactful space.
